Event Questions and Answers..

Do you have a question about the PTG Dirt Hounds seeded beach hunt, the answer might be below......

We hope to answer any questions you have about the upcoming Pull Tab Gear Dirt Hounds seeded hunt this fall, within this section. Please send us an email if you don't see the answer you're looking for and we will respond and add it to this list of questions and answers for everyone to view.

Q: Is the event rain or shine?
A: YES! Make sure to watch the weather for Erieau Beach and come prepared.

Q: Will I get a confirmation email once I have registered for the event?
A:
No. When you click submit on your registration form, you will see a message that reads "Yay!!.....We received your registration form" This means you are registered pending your e-transfer that should be submitted within 24 hours of registering for the event.

Q: Where do I send my E-transfer payment for registration?
A:
All Hunt registration fees (plus any addition "lunch only" guest wristbands you may need for friends that want to come out for the day but not hunt) are to be e-transferred to info@metaldetect.ca

Q: How do I know if the event coordinator has received my event fee by e-transfer?
A:
If you have received the "yay message" mentioned in the previous Q & A, we already know your e-transfer should be on the way. If we don't see the e-transfer within 24 hours of the registration form being submitted, we will send you an e-mail reminder or give you a call. Please remember to check your spam e-mails just in case. Remember to add a comment on your e-transfer with the participants name if the e-transfer sender name is different from the participant name. If by chance we see a payment that does not match up to a registration form, we will email the e-transfer sender to ask where to apply the payment.

Q: Will I receive a ticket for the event?
A:
No. You won't receive a physical ticket. Your name will be on a registered guest list and you will be required to sign in at the event between 9:30am and 10:30am to receive your designated hunt wristband for the day. Keep the wristband safe, this wristband is required to enter the hunt field and at the lunch hour.

Q: Should I sign up for the Novice Hunts or the Seasoned Hunts?
A:
The Novice Hunt is for anyone ages 8 and up including adults. This is a beginners level hunt for individuals who are just learning how to detect. We anticipate a higher ratio of children to adults in the Novice Hunt style. Seeded items for the novice hunts will include world coins, costume jewelry, small prize tokens and some other fun stuff.  Now, if you are hoping to find silver, gold, or have a chance at some of the major prizes, you will want to sign up for the Seasoned hunt package!

Q: Who can enter the Novice and Seasoned hunt areas?
A:
Only registered participants with a Novice wristband can enter the Novice hunt field. Only Seasoned Hunters with a seasoned hunter wristband can enter the seasoned hunt field. If you are brining a non registered friend to keep you company, they will have to watch from the sidelines during the scheduled hunts. Nobody will be permitted in the designated hunt area between hunts so our staff can re-seed the fields for the next hunt.

Q: Will the Novice Hunts and Seasoned Hunts be scheduled at the same time?
A:
Yes. Both the Novice and Seasoned hunts will take place at the same time throughout the day.

Q: I want to sign my child up for the novice hunt, Can I join them in the novice hunt field to help them?
A:
If you are also registered as a novice hunter, then yes, you can help them in the field. If you have not registered to hunt, you cannot be in the hunt field. We will have a hunt master and a couple of staff volunteers that will be in the hunt area to offer assistance if needed. We have a limited amount of space for participants in the designated hunt fields. The same rule applies to the seasoned hunt, no wristband means no entry to the hunt fields.

Q: If I don't have a detector, can I participate with just the use of a pinpointer?
A:
No. Although pinpointers are a permitted accessory in the hunt area, you must use a metal detector with headphones as your primary hunt tool. We want to avoid people crawling around the hunt field, potentially risking or causing potential accidents or injuries.

Q: Why are headphones required to participate?
A:
The beach is a public space, we won't be the only people on the beach and we don't want to be too disruptive. We also anticipate a high volume of participants. Headphones are required to allow each hunter to hear their own machine clearly. Imagine up to 200 or more detectors sounding off at the same time......

Q: Are hip mount baskets or side cages allowed?
A: No. To keep everything fair for everyone, hip mount baskets and cages will not be allowed. You may use a sand scoop to retrieve your targets and a pouch to save your treasures.

Q: I only have a multi frequency detector, can I still participate?
A:
Yes. While single frequency detectors can be better for a seeded hunt, a multi frequency machine is acceptable. You will want to lower your sensitivity to avoid interference with other machines, plus the seeded items will not be very deep.

Q: What type of clothing should I wear?
A:
We recommend closed toed shoes with ankle support due to the uneven terrain of the beach sand. Flip flops are not recommended. Dress for the weather! This is a beach hunt in late September so watch the forecast and plan accordingly. Each paid participant will be provided with a hunt shirt for the event.

Q: Do I have to wear detecting gloves?
A:
Gloves are never a bad idea when you are detecting, regardless of where you are. You never know what might be hiding below the surface such as sharp or rusty objects. That being said, we will not penalize anyone for deciding to detect gloveless at their own risk.

Q: I don't like / can't eat pepperoni pizza. Is there another option available?
A:
Unfortunately not. We will have a lot of people to feed and the pizza shop will have a lot of pizzas to make in a short amount of time. In order to make it easy on the makers of the tasty pizza, we have decided to provide pepperoni pizza slices. If you have allergies or dietary restrictions, please feel free to select the "None for me, Thanks" option on the registration form and pack a little cooler lunch from home. No alcohol....Sorry.

Q: Since this is a beach, should I bring a beach chair?
A:
Absolutely. There isn't seating, so please feel free to bring a folding chair, beach blankets, umbrellas, rain gear or anything that might make your day more comfortable.

Q: I'm bringing a non registered friend to keep me company between hunts. Can they have Pizza too?
A:
Yes. When you register, you can choose to order " Lunch Only" wristbands for $10 per wristband. The lunch only wristbands include 2 slices of peperoni pizza and a drink, but won't permit them to enter the hunt fields. Make sure to add the Lunch only wristband fee to the registration fee when submitting your e-transfer payment.

Q: How much downtime is there between scheduled hunts?
A:
There will be roughly 30 minutes between each hunt, and a 1.5 hour lunch break to make sure there is time to feed everyone. during the breaks, we will be seeding the next hunt.

Q: When is the last day to register for the event?
A:
The last day for Event registration is August 31st if we don't fill up first. Once we reach registration capacity, the Registration form will be closed. We have a limited number of spaces available, so you might want to register quickly.

Q: Can I register the day of the event?
A:
No. I'm sorry for the inconvenience, but this is a pre registered event only. There is a lot of carful planning involved in hosting an event this size and we will need time to prepare based on the pre registered numbers.

Q: I have more questions, who do I contact?
A:
If you have additional questions, please email Erin at info@metaldetect.ca
